Introducing Jisko 3.0beta1

Today is a big day: we’re launching Jisko 3.0beta1, the new webpage/wiki and also volunteers have announced it at FLISOL @ Celaya! It has been long time since we released 2.0, and because we know you wanted lots of new features, we decided to make an effort and release the beta of this future Jisko.

First, we’ve to say that since this version, we’re changing the way in which Jisko is released. We are moving from revisions (SVN) to versions. This means everyone can download easily without being a developer or a user with advanced knowledge. This will result in more security as you will now decide when and how to update your Jisko installation.

Here goes a brief of the new features, that makes Jisko to seem like also a CMS:

  1. FOAF Support
  2. New system of private profiles (the old one was causing perfomance issues)
  3. OpenID support
  4. Administration panel
  5. Installation system
  6. Gravatar integration
  7. Facebook Connect integration
  8. oEmbed support
  9. oExchange-Offer support
  10. New stats page
  11. New themes system (more customizable – easier to make new themes)
  12. New privacy system
  13. Created a contact page

Also we have improved other things like:

  1. Improved API, now it aims to be compatible with Twitter (90% at this moment; that means, long list of supported clients incoming!). Now the API url is moved to /api
  2. Now users can change their username
  3. Improved emails, now they are sent in HTML format
  4. If user isn’t logged in, the interface will try to load the preffered language by the browser
  5. Improved RSS Support
  6. Now users can choose colors to personalize their interface
  7. Improved mobile interface (now working on a new and shiny iPhone interface)
  8. When you go to the permalink page of a note, you can see every reply related with that note (because now you can reply to a specific note)
  9. Improved maintenance page
  10. Fixed Twitter integration
  11. Now you can send private messages with attached files
  12. New delete account page
  13. Now you can short URLs before posting
  14. Now users can get notified by email of new mentions
  15. Reduced and optimized lot of code
  16. Added lot of new URL shorteners

The main theme (Transparency) has some improvements also:

  1. Now you can enter more than 140 characters in the ‘text input’ textarea.
  2. Fixed a problem when deleting notes

But there are some things that are not finished yet:

  1. iPhone version has disappeared (as said, we’re working on it)
  2. Jabber/GTalk bot has been removed and will come back in 3.1
  3. The number of executed queries/page has been increased in notes/. That’s because of the new privacy system. We’re looking for a fix
  4. The admin interface isn’t very useful. We’re thinking of a new design and more features in 3.1
  5. API is not compatible with Twitter clients when Clean URLs are not activated
  6. New Jisko version notificator has not been developed yet (but coming)

And that’s all in short words. Visit our new website and download our beta and report any issues you may find, we’ll be ready to help you!

NOTE: Like Jisko, the website is not finished, and the wiki is new, so new content will arrive as soon as possible. Also, jisko.net is running 2.0 version yet since is a production environment.
